There’s a database being put in place to help hospitals spot victims of serial abuse. That’s fucking stupid, and I’m sure by now you’ve worked out why. If a parent (or anyone) brings a child to hospital that is the best possible thing that can happen at that time. If there is any barrier to this happening, we worsen the effects. If a parent thinks they’ll be busted when bringing their child to hospital, they’ll just not bring them. They’re already an abusive parent, right? In for a penny, in for a pound. Rather let’s find more social innovations to prevent this from happening and find more effective ways to break the cycle of identified serial abusers. Or insist that both parent and child will be met with the treatment and compassion they both so desperately need. And now it’s been pointed out we can no longer claim unintended consequences.
